UPS Lead-acid Batteries

As an important basic element in the UPS system, the quality of the storage battery is related to the safety and reliability of the entire UPS system. No matter how reliable the UPS system is, if the UPS lead-acid batteries is invalid, it cannot meet the requirements of the uninterruptible power supply system. Today, I will tell you what factors affect the service life of lead-acid batteries.

  1. Temperature

The temperature has a great influence on the UPS lead-acid batteries. Too high or too low will cause the storage battery life to be reduced (high temperature causes overcharging, ultra-low temperature causes insufficient charging), especially at high temperature, the impact on the lead-acid battery life is particularly obvious. Generally speaking, the working temperature should be controlled at about 30℃.

  1. Deep charge and discharge

The impact of deep charge and discharge on the UPS lead-acid batteries life is also very large. The greater the depth of charge and discharge of the storage battery, the lower the number of times the cycle system is used, so the deep charge and discharge should be minimized during use. Low current charge and discharge can easily cause deep charge and discharge

  1. Float voltage

Because the UPS monitoring battery belongs to the reserved working mode, the AC power supply is in the charging state under normal circumstances, and will only be charged and discharged when the power is cut off. In order to prolong the service life of the lead acid battery, it is necessary to set the float voltage appropriately. If the float voltage is too low, it will cause insufficient charging, and the cathode of the lead acid battery will inevitably be sulfated; if the float voltage is too high, it will accelerate the damage of water and the corrosion of the positive electrode. In addition, batteries of different specifications and school codes cannot be used interchangeably, and interoperability will result in different float charging voltages for individual batteries.

  1. Charging current

The amount of storage battery charge and discharge current is generally represented by C, and the real value of C is related to the battery power. For example, for a 100AH battery, C=100A. Under normal circumstances, the best charging current of lead-acid maintenance-free batteries is about 0.0C, and the charging current is too large or too small, which will affect the service life of the lead acid battery.

  1. Maintenance on time

The lead acid battery should be regularly maintained after a period of use, and relative maintenance should be done according to the quality of the AC power supply system. The quality of the AC power supply is better. In places where the battery has been continuously charged for a long time, the battery should be actively charged and discharged every time to prevent the battery from being in a floating charge state for a long time, and the hydrophilicity will be worse. The interval can be once a year, and the charging and discharging depth is about 30% of the battery power.

The above are several factors that affect the service life of lead-acid batteries. The maintenance of the lead-acid battery is particularly important in the maintenance of the UPS system, and its pros and cons are directly related to the reliability of the entire UPS system. If the user can use and maintain it correctly, it can prolong its service life, otherwise, its service life will be greatly shortened.
